Samsung has demonstrated the world’s first 4g mobile technology test. The demonstration was carried out on a bus which was traveling at 60 Km/h. This took place at the Samsung 4g conference/forum held in Jeju Korea. The new technology according to Samsung will enable users to download 100 MP3 music files in less than 3 seconds even while a person is on the move. In the live test the company went onto demonstrate Video On demand and internet access on the bus while the bus was in motion. The mentioned speeds were in excess of 100Mbps data speed. This fulfills the criteria laid down by the the International Telecom-munication Union which defines 4G technology as a wireless telecommunications technology allowing data transfer rates of 1Gbps (Gbit per second) at stationary positions and 100Mbps in mobile circumstances. The spectrum for this technology has not been laid out and is expected to be finalized in October 2007 with deployment to commercial status by 2010.
US based Neovision Labs has developed a new technology designed to enable the viewing of 3-D content on such mobile devices as PDAs and iPods, without the use of special glasses.
Movie director Randal Kleiser and Neovision president and founder Michael Mehrle has said their invention, the iFusion, has the potential to help forward the 3-D movement by giving studios a venue in which to re-purpose their 3-D produced content after the theatrical release.
“There are about 40 3-D films in some stage of production that “have no life” after the theatre. Now they could be re-purposed for cell phones and iPods. There is such a need (for an additional 3-D distribution platform). There is content that needs to be shown somewhere,” said Kleiser.
Mehrle said iFusion is an optical system designed to deliver affordable stereo 3-D content to any type of flat-panel display without the use of special glasses.
It is not device-dependent because no software or hardware modifications are necessary. This technology could therefore also be built for use with television displays or computers/laptops, he said.
According to him, the attachment would be secured over the device screen and marketed as an accessory for hand-held devices.
However, the technology would not convert a 2-D film to 3-D; rather, consumers would download 3-D content to the device for viewing.
The content could be animated or live-action films produced in 3-D or films that were produced in 2-D and later converted to 3-D (like “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas”), said Mehrle.
In addition to features, 3-D shorts, 3-D special-venue films and other such content could be used with the system, he said.
If Sony and company can do it, why shouldn’t Motorola follow suit? With the Sony P1 making a mark with its mobile devices that come with specific features and functions to draw in willing mobile consumers, Motorola is also doing almost the same.
The Illinois-based communications giant is reportedly gearing up to make users of its devices watch unbelievable quality movies in the near future. The company is in fact unveiling a mobile phone range equipped with full-motion video display and also the ability to host feature film playback via small removable storage cards.
The world’s second largest mobile phone manufacturer after Finnis giant Nokia said that one such movie phone device will be duly illuminated during a special event soon. This is expected to happen the coming Tuesday. The new mobile movie phone from Motorola is expected to initially land in the European region where faster 3G networks are considerably more widespread than in the United States.
It has been reported that the upcoming device would display 30 frames per second full-motion video. Motorola has even tied up with an unnamed company to store full feature-length films down onto Secure Digital (SD) cards.
It may be recalled that the Motorola had said earlier that it plans to introduce a range of fresh mobile devices based on 3G and Java technology. The company wants to directly address a recent dip in sales that Motorola equates to its lack of 3G-based products.
India is not an emerging market any more; it’s arrived already. No wonder why there is ample number of phone manufacturers flaunting the tag “made for India” in terms of features, functionality, and value-for-money aspects to name a few. These phones mostly are seen everywhere in the markets like India and African countries. Looking at the rate at which mobile users are increasing in India, there isn’t any doubt that India is quite the intermediate market.
Motorola already has a couple of mobiles that are quite good and are showing high sales; like the C168 and the W220. Even Nokia has a lot of phones for the entry level market and many are marketed with the same Made for India tag. Motorola has now released an even cheaper option to start off with; the MotoFone F3.
The MotoFone F3 is not just a cheaper phone but a phone with an economic technology for the first time. This technology evolves around the display of the phone. This display is mainly used to overcome the problem of battery draining LCD screens.
Motorola’s RAZR variations never seem to stop. They are churning out new models every season and this time they have added yet another model to their ‘SLVR L’ range of handsets. It’s a build up over the L7e and is called L9i. The L6 and L7 models didn’t appeal much to the masses and even the upgraded L7e doesn’t couldn’t hold itself up. Motorola has been doing a lot of advertising for the L9i. Let’s analyse whether the L9i has what it takes to achieve market significance, especially as it is placed in the same price band as Sony Ericsson’s K750i.
