Motorola RAZR takes a fresh breath with V8 and V9

Motorola officially unveiled the Motorola RAZR2 V8 and V9 models. These are the descendants of the highly popular Motorola RAZR V3 which paved the way for the ultra slim trend in the mobile world.

The Motorola RAZR2 comes in two versions - the first one is the Motorola RAZR2 V8 which has quad-band GSM/EDGE network support, while the second one is the Motorola RAZR2 V9 which is a quad-band GSM/EDGE/3G/HSDPA-enabled device. Other than that, feature-wise and design-wise the two are almost identical. There will also be an EVDO CDMA version, named RAZR2 V9m but it is out of the scope of this article.
The Motorola RAZR2 comes equipped with a main 2.2″ 262K color TFT display with a QVGA (320×240 pixels) resolution plus a really large secondary 2″ 262K color TFT display with a QVGA resolution too. It would practically mean that there would be no difference between using any of the two. What is more, Motorola are promising a handy messaging function that would allow user to compose and send messages without even opening the clamshell.

Design-wise, the RAZR2 has received an enormous facelift in both looks and style. It is thinner than every previous RAZR model and it has a new flushed-out metallic design with some hardened glass to protect all those square inches of displays that it offers.

The Motorola RAZR2 will have full support for stereo Bluetooth, it will have a microUSB slot for data connections and attaching headphones (makes us sorry for losing the standard miniUSB) and would certainly appeal with its 2 megapixel camera, which unfortunately doesn’t feature autofocus.

Motorola Motofone F3 - low on features, big on convenience and price.

Motorola made its name with the RAZR - and almost lost with with their collaboration with Apple to incorporate iTunes into their phones. That is a very long story, and a sad one, for both Apple, Motorola and the buyers. Anyway, Motorola has learnt some lessons, and recently we had the launches of the MotoRIZR and Motofone. They aim for different markets - the RIZR targets the high end market which is interested in Motorola’s distinctive style and cool factor, and the Motofone range focuses on the low end. Say, the rural markets of India.

The Motofone F3 has no camera. So forget your picture taking. It also doesn’t have a color screen. So forget that too. The market which Motorola is targeting with the F3 doesn’t care about cameras or color screens. It wants a basic phone which can make calls and send SMS, and that is what the F3 is all about.

What are the good things? It is still very thin - .35 inches, and it is stylish too. Even a villager can appreciate that. The screen has a very retro feel to it, and you have text and numbers that appear in high contrast. Anyone who is the owner of a RAZR knows how important that is. You can’t get confused with this phone, it’s that simple. Large numbers, text, a good screen, no animations, and a very good price.

Motorola to launch mobile phones with full-motion video display

If Sony and company can do it, why shouldn’t Motorola follow suit? With the Sony P1 making a mark with its mobile devices that come with specific features and functions to draw in willing mobile consumers, Motorola is also doing almost the same.

The Illinois-based communications giant is reportedly gearing up to make users of its devices watch unbelievable quality movies in the near future. The company is in fact unveiling a mobile phone range equipped with full-motion video display and also the ability to host feature film playback via small removable storage cards.

The world’s second largest mobile phone manufacturer after Finnis giant Nokia said that one such movie phone device will be duly illuminated during a special event soon. This is expected to happen the coming Tuesday. The new mobile movie phone from Motorola is expected to initially land in the European region where faster 3G networks are considerably more widespread than in the United States.

It has been reported that the upcoming device would display 30 frames per second full-motion video. Motorola has even tied up with an unnamed company to store full feature-length films down onto Secure Digital (SD) cards.

It may be recalled that the Motorola had said earlier that it plans to introduce a range of fresh mobile devices based on 3G and Java technology. The company wants to directly address a recent dip in sales that Motorola equates to its lack of 3G-based products.

Motorola MotoFone F3

India is not an emerging market any more; it’s arrived already. No wonder why there is ample number of phone manufacturers flaunting the tag “made for India” in terms of features, functionality, and value-for-money aspects to name a few. These phones mostly are seen everywhere in the markets like India and African countries. Looking at the rate at which mobile users are increasing in India, there isn’t any doubt that India is quite the intermediate market.

Motorola already has a couple of mobiles that are quite good and are showing high sales; like the C168 and the W220. Even Nokia has a lot of phones for the entry level market and many are marketed with the same Made for India tag. Motorola has now released an even cheaper option to start off with; the MotoFone F3.

The MotoFone F3 is not just a cheaper phone but a phone with an economic technology for the first time. This technology evolves around the display of the phone. This display is mainly used to overcome the problem of battery draining LCD screens.

Motorola SLVR L9i

Motorola’s RAZR variations never seem to stop. They are churning out new models every season and this time they have added yet another model to their ‘SLVR L’ range of handsets. It’s a build up over the L7e and is called L9i. The L6 and L7 models didn’t appeal much to the masses and even the upgraded L7e doesn’t couldn’t hold itself up. Motorola has been doing a lot of advertising for the L9i. Let’s analyse whether the L9i has what it takes to achieve market significance, especially as it is placed in the same price band as Sony Ericsson’s K750i.

Motorola announces ROKR Z6 music phone

Motorola announced its new ROKR brand of music-optimized headsets and handsets, highlighted by the powerful ROKR Z6, which is expected to hit stores in May. The company also announced a unique marketing agreement with Napster to give music fans even easier access to millions of songs on the go.

Motorola’s ROKR devices unite Motorola’s iconic style, with full MP3 player capabilities, and the seamless capability of a high-quality operating system. Inside the clean lines of the ROKR Z6 is a Linux/Java music phone with Windows Media technologies, including Windows Media Audio (WMA) Windows Media DRM 10, and media transfer protocol (MTP). The ROKR Z6 lets consumers “plug and play” with any personal computer running Windows Media Player 10 or 11. With fast PC direct connectivity via High Speed USB 2.0, the Z6 lets you access music you want simply and seamlessly.

The slim slider ROKR Z6 music handset enables easy transition from phone to music and back again, the ROKR Z6 allows one-touch access to your library and pauses music as calls come through.

A touch of finger on the 4-way navigation wheel gives immediate access to content. High Speed USB 2.0 allows to side-load songs in 2-3 seconds, almost five times faster than a competitive music phone: that’s a 500 song library in 15 minutes, instead of 2 hours. Synch purchased music from over 200 music stores, including Napster, onto the device from your PC; or side-load tunes from over 200 music stores worldwide - an advantage over most other devices.

The Z6 makes it easy to find and manage songs using Windows Media Player on the PC, which supports playlists, album art, search by genre, artist and more. It even answers calls while you transfer. The ROKR Z6 works right out of the box; Windows Media Player automatically recognizes the device.

With the external memory slot, load up 2GB microSD cards with your music collection; each holds approximately 1,000 songs and 70 hours of music1 2.

Battery can last more than 10 hours of music listening in airplane mode.

The ROKR Z6 also features stereo Bluetooth wireless technology, enabling users to enjoy a wireless mobile stereo experience on the go with compatible Bluetooth-enabled stereo headphones such as the ROKR S9 wrap-around headset3, another recent addition to the ROKR family. The amazing one-ounce S9 provides a tangle-free way to groove to tunes and dance to the music without ever missing a call.

ROKR Z6 will be on sale in Asian markets starting in May. Providing a complete end-to-end music service in China, the ROKR Z6 will download and side-load content from Motorola’s music store. The ROKR Z6 and ROKR Z6m will be available for purchase in Latin America, Europe, and North America.
