Carphone shares rise after Vodafone takeover rumours

Carphone share prices leapt by 17.5 pence as the rumors hit London’s Stock Exchange. However, both Vodafone and Best Buy have been linked with potential bids before. Juniper Research principle analyst Dr Windsor Holden is skeptical of the rumors, saying: “We shouldn’t dismiss either bid out of hand, but these rumors come at a quiet time of year. “I would say a potential Vodafone takeover is more feasible and would create considerable restructuring of Carphone.

Ultimately it would probably lead to large-scale closure of Carphone’s UK retail outlets and rival operators would be forced to review their relationship with the group.“A bid from Best Buy is feasible, as it already has a small shareholding in Carphone Warehouse and could be interested in establishing a strong European presence. But I would say the chance of either group launching a bid is only 50/50.”

Hollywood-Star goes T-Mobile

Famous actress Catherine Zeta-Jones will be T-Mobile global spokeswoman and will appear in T-Mobile worldwide advertising campaign. The campaign will start this summer when US subsidiary VoiceStream will be re-branded “T-Mobile US”. Zeta-Jones who starred in such films as “The Mask of Zorro” and “Traffic” says she was attracted to T-Mobile “get more from life” message because it mirrors the way she uses mobile communications to enhance her own quality of life: “The ability to reach someone on a whim to share a story, a laugh or a memory is incredibly empowering.
